Gablok at Circular EMR Top 2026: Advancing Circular Construction in the Meuse–Rhine Region

Circular construction is no longer a future ambition; it is a present necessity. On April 21st, 2026, Gablok had the pleasure of participating in the Circular EMR Top 2026 in Heerlen, an important event that brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and knowledge institutions to address one of the most pressing questions in the construction sector today: how to organise circular construction at scale in the Meuse–Rhine region.

As a company with strong roots in this region, and with both production and engineering activities contributing directly to sustainable building innovation, Gablok was proud to be part of this valuable exchange of knowledge, expertise, and forward-thinking discussions. The event created a strong platform for collaboration between organisations that are actively shaping the future of circular construction.

One of the most important conclusions from the event was that the challenge of circular construction is no longer primarily technical. The necessary solutions already exist. The real challenge lies in achieving alignment between legal frameworks, financial systems, supply chains, and cross-border cooperation. Through opening interviews, panel discussions, and interactive workshops, participants explored the barriers that still limit large-scale implementation of circular building practices, particularly within the Meuse–Rhine region.

Discussions focused on legal obstacles, financial feasibility, material traceability, and the urgent need for stronger cooperation between organisations across borders. These topics strongly reflect Gablok’s own mission and daily operations. As a company working at the intersection of engineering, production, and sustainable development, we understand that innovation must be supported by systems that allow it to scale effectively.

At Gablok, we believe that industrialised timber construction and modular building systems are not only efficient solutions, but essential tools for achieving a truly circular built environment. Our insulated wooden block system is designed to reduce construction waste, optimise material use, improve energy performance, and accelerate on-site assembly while maintaining high technical standards. This approach supports greater adaptability and future reuse of building components, which are fundamental principles of circular economy construction.

By combining prefabrication, precision engineering, and sustainable material flows, modular construction becomes more than a building method; it becomes a long-term strategy for environmental responsibility and economic resilience. The insights shared during Circular EMR Top 2026 strongly reinforced this perspective and highlighted the growing importance of practical, scalable solutions in the transition toward circular building.

What stood out most during the event was the visible shift from simply building a network to creating a true ecosystem. Circular transformation requires more than isolated innovation; it requires connected systems, shared responsibility, and long-term collaboration between industries, institutions, and regions. This is where the work of ECCBT is creating real impact.

As a company operating within the Meuse–Rhine region, Gablok values this collaborative approach and sees it as essential for the future of construction. Our participation in Circular EMR Top 2026 reflects our commitment to being an active contributor to this ecosystem, sharing practical expertise, learning from partners across borders, and supporting the development of circular construction models that are both technically sound and economically viable.

The event confirmed that the momentum for circular construction is growing rapidly. The ambition across the region is strong, and the willingness to collaborate is even stronger. At Gablok, we are proud to be part of this transition and to contribute to a future where modular timber construction plays a central role in sustainable development.

With the foundation built during Circular EMR Top 2026, the path toward Circular EMR Top 2027 in Aachen already looks promising. As specialists in modular building systems and circular construction solutions, we see enormous potential for the Meuse–Rhine region to become a leading example of sustainable construction in Europe, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
